A Complete Guide to Tyton Push-on Socket Pipe Fittings: Structural Principles, Installation Advantages and Suitable Pipes?
Oct. 20, 2025
Tyton Push-on Socket Pipe Fittings, featuring rubber gasket sealing and push-on connection design, are widely used in municipal and construction piping systems for their convenience and reliability. Their core value lies in simplifying construction while ensuring system stability.
1. Core Structure and Sealing Principle
Designed around "quick connection + sealing", it consists of three parts:
Socket Body: Sleeve-shaped with a groove on the inner wall to hold the gasket, guiding pipe insertion, and ensuring coaxiality.
Elastomeric Rubber Gasket: Mostly made of EPDM or NBR, with aging and corrosion resistance. When the pipe is inserted, the gasket is compressed and deformed, fitting the pipe wall to form a two-way seal.
Optional Retaining Structure: Some models have protrusions or snap rings to prevent pipe loosening caused by vibration, thermal expansion, and contraction.
The sealing principle is based on "pressure self-reinforcement": the higher the medium pressure, the tighter the gasket is compressed, resulting in better sealing performance, which solves the problem of easy leakage of traditional threaded connections under high pressure.
2. Core Installation Advantages
Compared with threaded and flange fittings, Tyton Push-on Socket Pipe Fittings have advantages that focus on three aspects:
High Efficiency & Labor Saving: No professional tools required. After cutting the pipe smoothly, it can be directly pushed in for installation. One person can install 1-2 joints per minute, greatly shortening the construction period.
Lower Cost: No need for professional personnel such as welders and fitters, and no equipment investment for thread processing and flange welding, reducing the overall cost by 30%-50%.
Adaptability to Complex Working Conditions3: The rubber gasket can absorb displacement caused by thermal expansion and contraction, buffer the impact of settlement and vibration, avoid stress cracking at the connection point, and is suitable for buried and overhead pipes.
3. Suitable Pipes and Limitations?
It is mainly compatible with three types of pipes:
PVC Pipes: Including UPVC water supply and drainage pipes, with smooth outer walls and precise dimensions. Suitable for building water supply and drainage, municipal rainwater systems, with a medium temperature ≤ 60℃;
PE Pipes: Mainly HDPE pipes, with low-temperature resistance and impact resistance. Used in municipal gas and rural drinking water pipe networks, tolerating temperatures from -40℃ to 40℃;
Ductile Iron Pipes: Compatible with ductile iron water supply pipes above DN100. The same material of the fitting reduces corrosion, suitable for urban main water pipes and industrial park circulation pipelines, with pressure bearing ≥ 1.6MPa.
It should be noted that Tyton Push-on Socket Pipe Fittings are not suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure steam pipes or pipes with strong corrosive media. Before pipe insertion, burrs and impurities on the outer wall must be cleaned to avoid damaging the gasket.
